After his memorable yet dubious majority draw over WBC Welterweight Champion Mario Barrios, legendary fighter Manny Pacquiao finds himself in the midst of another whirlwind of speculation as to what his next foe might be. The current talk of boxing is knockout sensation Gervonta “Tank” Davis. Though it’s not official, the fight between the multi-division legend and the undefeated knockout artist is starting to get very serious, in terms of noise in the world of combat sports this week.
Due in large part to Pacquiao's unexpected performance against Barrios, there is now renewed interest in a Pacquiao-Davis matchup. The "PacMan" displayed glimmers of his former speed, agility, and power, landing more important shots against the younger champion despite being 46 years old and fresh off a four-year hiatus. Many people, including former two-division world champion Tim Bradley, were persuaded that Pacquiao still possesses the exceptional skills required for big fights after this fight defied many pre-fight expectations.
Bradley has publicly supported Pacquiao in a possible fight against a distracted Gervonta Davis, according to an interview with Fight Hub TV. He specifically brought up Davis's performance against Lamont Roach, implying that Pacquiao's background and skill set might win out if Davis doesn't give it his all. Bradley, who famously shared the ring with Pacquiao three times and is renowned for his insightful boxing analysis, lends significant weight to the conversation with his remarks.
Bradley also alluded to possible problems for Davis outside of the ring, even implying that "Tank" might be "done" with boxing or losing interest, which is a big accusation that makes any future fight negotiations even more intriguing.
Although Gervonta Davis has not made any official remarks regarding the possible fight since Pacquiao's most recent bout, the rumors underscore Manny Pacquiao's ongoing appeal. Any opponent he selects will be a noteworthy event because of his ability to perform at a high level even after so many years.
The Pacquiao-Davis bout is still only a hypothetical dream fight for the time being. Boxing fans are anxiously awaiting what might happen next as the rumors of a fight between the renowned "PacMan" and the intimidating "Tank" are intensifying due to Pacquiao's desire to get back into the ring and prove himself after the draw and the absence of obvious opponents for Davis.
