
Allan Cantonjos rules Dipolog FIDE Standard chess tilt

Seasoned woodpusher Allan Cantonjos emerged as the champion in the 11th Carlo and Wendy FIDE rated Standard Chess Tournament held last July 19-20, 2025, at the Museo in Dipolog City.
Cantonjos, a former top player of Philippine Airforce chess team, pocketed the P30,000 purse and the trophy for ruling the tournament.
He had a near-perfect campaign after tallying 5.5 points in the six-round Swiss system competition.
"I am happy with my performance," said Cantonjos, who hails from Gingoog City.
Kevin Mirano, one of the top players of Philippine Army chess team also notched 5.5 points, but settled for second place due to lower tie break points.
Mirano’s second place finish earned him P20,000, while the third , fourth, and fifth place went to Kevin Arquero of the Philippine Army, and local bets Ariel Montero and Teodor Francis Mangubat with 5.0 points each to earn P10,000, P7,500 and P5,000, respectively.
Rounding up to the top 9 who got 4.5 points each were Abdulkalip Daggung (sixth), Geronimo Romarate (seventh), Jarfinel Amodia (eight) and James Pada (ninth).
Johnny Wellem Carzano of Misamis Occidental led the huge group of 4.0 pointers and finished 10th overall.
The tournament Director was Joselito Rojas assisted by Chief Arbiter FA Ronald Solon.- Marlon Bernardino-
