The Philippines competed in the Olympics for the first time in 1924, and coincidentally, it was held in Paris, France too. The sport of boxing has produced the most number of Olympic participants for the Philippines and eight of the 14 medals the country has won in the history of the Olympics.

The Philippines sent boxers in every Olympics it participated in except for the 1924 and 1928 edition of the Summer Games. The country commemorates its 100 years of Olympic participation, and it reached its aim of winning the first Olympic gold medal by weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz in the Tokyo Games.

Now the goal is for the Philippines to seize the elusive boxing gold medal. And the target is to get that in the Paris Games with veterans Nesthy Petecio, Carlo Paalam, and Eumir Marcial will have another chance at Olympic victory, together with debutants Hergie Bacyadan and Aira Villegas.

With 22 athletes qualified, Team Philippines now aims to surpass its record medal tally of one gold, two silvers, and one bronze in the last Tokyo Olympics.

The United States, sending the biggest delegation with 594 athletes, aims to once again rule with the overall championship which the country has captured in the last three editions of the Summer Games.
