Afridi, Dhaka Make Weight for WBA ASIA South 160 Lb Title in Thailand

BANGKOK, Thailand – Middleweight fighters Shahir "The Markhor" Afridi (9-0-1, 5 KO's) of Pakistan and Kulbir Dhaka (7-2, 4 KO's) of India successfully made weight ahead of their WBA Asia South Middleweight title battle set for Thursday, January 25, at the plush SpacePlus Night Club, RCA Plaza, in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand.

The 10-round main event rumble promoted by Highland Boxing Promotions - promises to ignite fireworks as its the case each time Pakistan and India compete in a sporting event. This one is not an exception.

Will the unbeaten 28-year-old power-hitter Shahir Afridi rock Kulbir Dhaka into dreamland, as he has done with a number of his prior opponents?

Or will the taller Kulbir Dhaka, a former amateur standout in India, be the one to outbox and dominate "The Markhor," teaching him a boxing lesson?

In the co-feature, tall and lethal Kittipong Jian Hao Ho (5-1-1, 4 KO's), fighting out of "The Lion City" Singapore clashes hard against more-experienced Thai warrior Roongroj Audomrit (11-6, 5 KO's) for the vacant ABF (Asia Boxing Federation) Super Middleweight Belt.

In heavyweights, undefeated Taimoor Khan (11-0, 10 KO's) of Pakistan, whose dream is to bring his heavyweight firepower to fans in Las Vegas, USA, fights hard-swinging former muay thai combatant Chinnakrit Junkot.

Taimoor came in at 103 kilos (227 pounds) at the scale, while Junkot made 127 kilos (280 lbs). This one, might not make the distance.

In women's action, Linn Sandstrom (7-2-2, 2 KO's) from Sweden gets in the ring against Thai lady warrior Arisara Wisetwongsa. Their rumble is a 10-rounder in the bantamweight division.

Also, Russian born Australian "Sparrow Jr." Sergei Vorobev (19-2, 13 KO's) of Sydney collides against Chaiwat Mueanphong (8-4, 6 KO's) of Lop Buri, Thailand. Their rough encounter is an 8-rounder war in super welterweights.

Furthermore, Aussie man of action Jye Lane Taylor (4-2, 2 KO's), also from Sydney, Australia, lock horns against experienced hard-swinging former Muay Thai combatant Phollawat Nanthaekkaphong.

The Taylor vs Phollawat war is an eight-round fight in the weight class were "Hands of Stone" Roberto Duran was the undisputed king: the lightweights.

Moreover, unbeaten Sura Krishna Chakma (6-0, 3 KO's), born in Rangamati in Eastern Bangladesh, climbs up the square ring for his clash against 30-year-old Sornram Sopakul of Bangkok, Thailand. Their 6-rounder is in the lightweight division.

Opening the pro boxing part of the show will be Dharringarra Trewhella from the Land Down Under, Australia, battling tough-as-nails Thai warrior Somran Taihirun of Bangkok. The tough men are on for a six-stanza battle in the welterweight division.

Two Muay Thai fights complete the international event, one for women and the other one for men. For the ladies, Seynabou Konate (16-6-6) of France clashes against cute but powerful Thai fighting girl Phetmaree Sit Pu-koong (12-6-2). It will be 3 muay thai rounds, both women weighing 48 kilos (106 pounds)

And last but not least, muay thai fighters Maxime Guyard (12-6-6) of France and Vitsiam Sit Chansing (9-5-4) of Thailand will engage in a three-frame rumble in the flyweight division.
