ERICKSON LUBIN IN CONTROVERSIAL UD IN OVER JESUS RAMOS JR.

Erickson Lubin inflicted the first defeat of Jesus Ramos Jr. with controversial unanimous decision victory to capture the WBC Diamond Super Welter Title and win the WBA world title eliminator on the co-main event of the Canelo-Charlo undisputed supermiddle championship at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night (Sunday in Manila) broadcast on Showtime pay-per-view.
The opening round set the tone as both fighters cautiously felt each other out. With both Ramos and Lubin being southpaws, the early exchanges were marked by a battle of jabs, neither fighter willing to commit too much. As the fight progressed into the second round, Ramos initiated a body assault, working diligently to put pressure on Lubin. The Floridian, Lubin, maintained his composure, picking his shots carefully in response to Ramos's aggressive approach.
Round three witnessed an uptick in the tempo, with both fighters exchanging jabs. Ramos, in particular, honed in on the body, landing several impactful shots. Lubin found success in the fifth round by being more active with his jab. He connected with a couple of solid jabs to the body and executed a two-punch combo to Ramos's head. Despite Lubin's efforts, Ramos maintained his relentless forward movement, trapping Lubin against the ropes and launching a furious flurry toward the end of the round. The sixth round mirrored the preceding one, with Ramos relentlessly applying pressure. Lubin continued to rely on his counterpunching skills, but Ramos clearly controlled the fight, pinning Lubin to the ropes and landing numerous body shots.
Round seven saw Ramos finding success when he managed to corner Lubin against the ropes. These moments, particularly toward the end of the round, allowed Ramos to land some telling blows. Lubin struggled to seize the offensive in the eighth round as Ramos continued to push the pace. Ramos maintained his commitment to body punching and effectively dictated the flow of the contest.
In the ninth round, Ramos stuck to his game plan of putting pressure and body work, while Lubin finally had a busier round, showing greater activity compared to previous rounds. The tenth round featured a tense standoff as both fighters looked to potshot each other. The intensity of the bout was palpable as they approached the championship rounds.
Entering the penultimate round, Ramos's corner urged him to go for the kill in the final two rounds. Ramos attempted to heat up the action, but Lubin displayed slick defensive maneuvers and countered effectively. The fight had yet to witness any dramatic moments. In the final round, Lubin initiated the action with a busy approach. Ramos, in his pursuit, attempted to attack, but Lubin demonstrated solid defensive skills and countered effectively. The fight concluded with a thud, leaving the crowd eagerly awaiting the judges' verdict.
The Verdict: Controversy in the Air
As the judges' scores were tallied, the verdict shocked the crowd at the venue. The scores read: Chris Migliore - 115-113, Patricia Morse Jarman - 117-111, and John McKaie - 116-112, all in favor of Erickson Lubin. The decision was met with audible disapproval from the crowd, as boos rained down upon the ring. The close and hard-fought nature of the contest led to a contentious decision.
Lubin improves his record to 26-2-0, 20KOs while Ramos drops to 21-1-0, 16KOs.
