Lapulapu City -- Miel 'The Silent Assassin' Fajardo destroyed fellow rising prospect John Paul 'Angas ng Cebu' Gabunilas in two minutes to win the vacant OPBF Junior Flyweight title in the highly anticipated matchup at the Hoops Dome Tuesday night.
The power punching Fajardo who knocked out 10 of his previous 11 victims, wasted no time in sending Gabunilas to the canvas seconds into the opening bell. Fajardo threw a left jab that Gabunilas avoided by backing out a bit, but a wicked follow up right by Fajardo landed squarely to the face of Gabunilas that sent Cebu-native to the canvas badly hurt. Gabunilas beat the count of Referee Tony Pesons but appeared dazed and on unsteady legs.
Pesons allowed the fight to continue but a barrage of punches by Fajardo sent Gabunilas to the canvas for the second time. Gabunilas beat the count again only to be sent back to the canvas for the third time. Seeing enough destruction, Referee Pesons waved off the fight without counting for an impressive TKO win by Fajardo. Time was 1 minute of the first round.
Fajardo improves his record to 11-1-2, 10 KOs while Gabunilas absorbed his 2nd defeat and dropped to 10-2, 7KOs.
