PH chess wizard Gabrielle O. Nuqui tops 2023 CLRAA Meet

PH chess wizard Gabrielle O. Nuqui pocketed the top honors in the 2023 Central Luzon Regional Athletic Association (CLRAA) Meet Secondary Boys Chess Tournament held at the Palayan City Kalayaan Hall in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija last April 24-28.

The 15-year-old Nuqui, a Grade 9 student of Mawaque High School in Mabalacat City, Pampanga collected 6.5 points on six wins and a draw in seven outings.

Nuqui scored victories over John Mark Tallod in the first round, Daniel Gil Eclevia in the second round, Tiv Omangay in the third round, Paul Terence Tabago in the fourth round, 5 Austin Jay Tablan in the fifth round, and Ralph Christian Aquino in the sixth and penultimate round.

He split the points with Vince Duanne Pascual in the seventh and final round.

With the win, Nuqui, representing Region 3, will advance to the Palarong Pambansa National Finals to be held on July 29 to August 5 in Marikina City.

"I hope to do well in the Palarong Pambansa National Finals in Marikina City," said Nuqui, one of the top players of Mabalacat City Gamemasters Chess Club, playing under the guidance of Mayor Cris Garbo, coach Allen Dino and Deped trainers.

"My boy has grown up to become such a successful man! He has become someone amazing and we are very proud of him. Congratulations on your tremendous accomplishment and we love you,” said proud mother Kaye Nuqui.

Nuqui teaming up with Christian Erickson Costuna also won the gold medal in the Team event.-Marlon Bernardino-
