BANGKOK, Thailand -- Brave and skilled Bacoleño fighter John Michael Zulueta gets back into fight mode after almost 3 years of inactivity to battle tough, experienced Indonesian warrior Jack Amisa in a non-title, six-chapter saga today Saturday, May 14, at the plush and fancy SpacePlus Night Club here in Bangkok, Kingdom of Thailand.
Zulueta and Misa weighed-in slightly over the flyweight division, both men looking serious and strong ahead of their imminent war.
The Pinoy looked fantastic while stepping on the scale, later sharing that his best fighting weight is in the light flyweight division (108 pounds). That's the weight-class where a year ago the talented Pinoy earned world-rankings and claimed Asian IBO and IBF titles.
A native of lovely Calatrava, Negros Occidental, John Michael Zulueta (11-0-2, 4 KO's), wants to get into more challenging rumbles, aiming to get back into the world-rankings and eventually earn a world title shot.
Fighting for the world crown is John Michael's golden dream since being a boxer kid in Bacolod, the blessed City which is also the home of another beloved Filipino warrior: Donnie Nietes.
The rather shy, but friendly Zulueta is being assisted in his battle in Thailand by Filipino coach Julius Tibao of La Trinidad, Benguet.
"John Michael is well-prepared for his fight. He is focused on a win. I like working with him because he is a disciplined boxer," shared coach Julius with a confident look on his face.
Zulueta's fight is a supporting bout for the main event headlined by the Asian Boxing Federation 160-pound middleweight battle between undefeated Afridi The Markhor" Shahir of Karachi, Pakistan, and Vachayan Khamon of Thailand.
John Michael Zulueta's rumble in Thailand is promoted by Thai Boxing and Muay Thai promoter Supanat Chamram, co-promoted by active Filipino man of boxing Brico Santig of the Highland Boxing Team in association with Tony Chen and SpacePlus Night Club Bangkok.
