More technically sound, unbeaten Briton Sunny "Showtime" Edwards (18-0, 4 KO's) outboxed and decisioned 34-year-old Pakistani brawler Muhammad "Falcon" Waseem (12-2, 8 KO's) by unanimous to defend for the second time his IBF Flyweight World Title Saturday night, March 19, in Dubai.
The aggressive Waseem charged forward, mostly ineffectively, many times head first for which he got points deducted, while the 26-year-old Sunny "Showtime" Edwards from London counterpunched, moved and boxed far better, landing more blows, even though with not enough power to get Waseem staggered nor in serious trouble.
It was a well-deserved victory for Sunny Edwards, clearly the better man throughout the 12 chapter brawl.
After the win, Edwards stated during the post-fight interview that he'd love to unify belts against Mexican WBC-112 king Julio César Martínez (18-2, 14 KO’s), asking Martínez’ promoter Eddie Hearn to stage the fight. Will Eddie want to make that fight for fans? Hopefully yes.
Tonight’s battle – staged at Dubai's Duty Free Tennis Stadium – was promoted by Richard Schaefer's Probellum live on Fubo Sports and Eurosport.
