Filipino slugger Vincent Astrolabio weighed-in at 122.6 pounds during the required 14-Day weight-check ahead of his clash against Cuban former champ Guillermo "El Chacal" Rigondeaux (20-2, 13 KO's) for the vacant WBC International Bantamweight strap on February 26 at the plush Dubai Marina, United Araba Emirates.
The belt in dispute – the WBC International title – is an important one for the the sanctioning body headquartered in Mexico, the winner getting ranked high in bantamweight world class with increased possibilities for a world title shot.
That is why glory-hungry Vincent Astrolabio wants so bad a thrilling win in “The City of Gold” Dubai.
17-years younger than the Cuban veteran, Vincent Astrolabio - who hails from boxing-loving General Santos City in the Philippines - has youth and freshness on his side.
In addition, Astrolabio keeps the intensity of his training sessions guided by Manny Pacquiao's former coach, Nonoy Neri.
As fans remember, Nonoy Neri is the beloved veteran coach, who – together with Buboy Fernandez and Freddie Roach – prepared the fantastic Pacman throughout his legendary, memorable career.
Inspired by the win of his compatriot Mark "Magnifico" Magsayo over Gary Russell Jr. weeks ago in Atlantic City, Vincent "Asero" Astrolabio focuses 100% on emerging victorious from his 12-rounder rumble against the accomplished Rigondeaux.
Will the the skills, moves and ring smarts of the veteran Cuban confuse the coming-forward, aggressive fighting style of the 24-year-old Vincent Astrolabio?
Or will the hard-hitting Pinoy warrior be successful in landing hard and precise punches on the former Olympian to claim a stoppage victory in the "City of Gold?"
Rigondeaux vs Vincent Astrolabio is the main event for February 26 in Dubai.
For the show's co-feature, it is possible that Filipino Mark John "Journeyman” Yap (30-15, 15 KO’s) of Cagayan de Oro would trade blows against 19-year-old former amateur standout Jadier Herrera (4-0, 4 KO's) of Camaguey, Cuba, for the vacant WBA Asia South Super Featherweight strap. Protocols need to be cleared first.
The Dubai show is promoted by Phucan An Nguyen of People’s Fighters. Matchmaker Brico Santig of Highland Boxing Team.
