Tokyo Olympics 2020 silver medalists Nesthy Petecio and Carlo Paalam and bronze medalist Eumir Marcial have reaped medals in the Summer Games but still targeting to win more medals.

As promised, they received their brand-new homes from Senator Francis Tolentino and Philippine Olympic Committee President Representative Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino. The three boxers swore not to stop their quest for an Olympic gold and work harder to achieve their golden dreams at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

“I’m definitely going back. As I’ve said before, I’m not going to stop until I win the gold,” said Petecio as quoted by Inquirer Sports. She is scheduled to resume training next week, four months after her successful Tokyo Games exploit.

Paalam, the men’s flyweight silver medalist in Tokyo, is looking for two more stints in the Olympics in Paris and subsequently joining Team Philippines for Los Angeles 2028.

“I hope to still do it and win more medals,” said Paalam whose new house is just adjacent to Petecio and Marcial’s new residences in Tagaytay City. Paalam plans to compete in the coming Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam and Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Marcial’s Olympic middleweight bronze medal triumph enable him to start constructing a boxing gym. “It’s a dream to have my own boxing gym, so I grabbed the chance now that I have the opportunity to build one,” said Marcial as quoted by Inquirer Sports.

Marcial became the first Filipino professional boxer to join in the Olympics and he keeps training daily to arrange a fight in the United States possibly in March.

“I will definitely make way for the SEA Games, Asian Games and the Olympic qualifying for Paris despite my busy schedule in the pros,” said Marcial.

Senator Francis and Representative Bambol Tolentino personally rewarded each of the three boxers with new single-detached house and lot from their own funds worth about P10 million each.

“We are actually planning to build an Olympic community where our future Olympic medalists can have a house of their own and stay here in Tagaytay for good,” said Bambol Tolentino.

Earlier they presented Olympic weightlifting gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz with a 200-sqm house and lot also in Tagaytay City.

"I’m really dreaming of an Olympic gold medal," said Paalam as quoted by PhilStar Sports who seems to be the best bet for the boxing gold medal in Paris and he is the youngest of the three fighters at 23. Marcial is 26 years old while Petecio is 29.

Marcial mixes his boxing career going back and forth from being a pro to an amateur. "I can still do it,” said Marcial. He also won a silver medal at the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

In his pro debut, Marcial won over Andrew Whitfield by UD4 on December 16, 2020at the Microsoft Theater, Los Angeles, California, U.S.

Congressman Tolentino is trying to encourage the three boxers and Diaz, to go for the gold in Paris. "I think they can still qualify to the Olympics and they’re still young enough to shoot for the Olympic gold,” said Bambol Tolentino, who dreams of rewarding each Filipino Olympic medalist a home.

Gervonta Davis irritated an incessant injury suffered during training camp for their lightweight title fight with Isaac Cruz on Sunday. Davis validated the revelation of his trainer Calvin Ford that the WBA (Regular) lightweight and super lightweight champion fought with a hand injury incurred during training camp.

Cruz, age 23 from Mexico City, Mexico ended Davis’ 16-fight knockout streak and took the unbeaten titlist to fight 12 rounds for the first time in his eight-year pro career.

Davis (26-0, 24 KOs) won a unanimous decision, but the rugged Cruz (22-2-1, 15 KOs) pressed the heavily favored fighter throughout their bout and won more rounds versus Davis, age 27 from Baltimore, Maryland, than his previous opponents at the Staples Center.

Judges Carla Caiz (115-113), Max De Luca (115-113) and Zachary Young (116-112) all scored the fight for Davis.
