Power punching lefty Zhanibek Alimkhanuly of Khazakstan won by TKO over former world champion Hassan N'dam of Yaounde, Cameroon via 8th round TKO to retain his WBO Global middleweight title on the feature bout of the Terrence Crawford vs Shawn Porter WBO world welterweight championship at the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas Saturday night.
The younger and bigger former Olympian dominated N'dam all night sending the Cameroon native to the canvas in the third round. N'dam continued to receive punishment in the succeeding rounds. It appeared it was only a matter of time before he could be taken out. Alimkhanuly however appeared to hurt his left hand and was not throwing it as ferociously as before allowing N'dam to stay in the fight.
A burst combination in the 8th round by Alimkhanuly that trapped N'dam in the corner convinced Referee Kenny Bayless that N'dam had had enough and stopped the fight at 2:40 of the round under the protestation of N'dam.
Alimkhanuly is now 11 wins with seven stoppages while the 37-year-old has dropped to 38-6-0, 21KOs.
