Paradero (L) and CP Freshmart (R).
Bukidnon’s Robert (Inggo) Paradero said yesterday he won’t bungle his second chance to win a world crown and promised to dethrone super WBA minimumweight champion Knockout CP Freshmart when they tangle in a scheduled 12-round title fight in Phuket, Thailand, on Dec. 14.

Paradero, 25, got cocky and celebrated too early in losing a split decision to Vic Saludar for the vacant regular WBA 105-pound belt in Binan last February. He hasn’t fought since the setback as a June 27 appointment with Thembelani Okolo for the WBF minimumweight championship in South Africa was cancelled. For a while, Paradero entertained the option of fighting in the US then came the opportunity to battle the undefeated Freshmart who’s making the 10th defense of the throne he ascended in 2016.

At the moment, Paradero is staying sharp in his Malaybalay hometown with trainer Jojo Singsing and chief sparmate JayR Tulinan. Paradero and Singsing will leave for Manila on Nov. 25 then for Thailand on Dec. 1. Fully vaccinated travelers to Thailand are required to quarantine only a day in an accredited hotel or until the results of a negative RT-PCR test are released.

Paradero’s manager Dr. Toto Sajulga said he’s confident of a win. “Kaya ni Inggo kasi iba na ang fight strategy, hindi na amateur style, kailangan bell-to-bell para mapabagsak,” he said. “Malaking lesson namin yung nangyari kay Saludar. Well-prepared si Inggo ngayon. Malaking pasalamat namin na bigyan pa siya ng second chance para world championship. Malaki ang chance na ma-KO ang kalaban.”

Paradero said he hasn’t stopped training since the Saludar bout. “Kailangan saktan ko agad kasi pag ‘di ma TKO o KO, ‘di ako mananalo,” said Paradero who calls himself “Sakalam Ng Pinas.” “Bibigyan ko ng magandang laban at gugulatin ko ang mundo. Walang masama mangarap. Babawi ako sa pagkabigo ko last fight. Pakita ko sa mga Pilipino ang pagbabalik ko.” Paradero said he has discussed strategy with Toto Landero who lost a 12-round decision to Freshmart in 2018. Landero is one of Freshmart’s eight Filipino victims, three of whom were thwarted in title attempts.

Paradero has never fought outside the Philippines so this will be a new experience but he’s not fazed. His record is 18-1, with 12 KOs. Freshmart, whose real name is Thammanoon Niyomtrong, was a Muay Thai fighter before making his debut as a pro boxer in 2012. He has compiled a record of 22-0, with 8 KOs and is coming off a third round disposal of Pongsaklek Sithdabnij in his ninth title defense in Buriram, Thailand, last October.
