Freddie Roach trained Elvis Rodriguez of the Dominican Republic bounced back from his only defeat against Kenneth Sims to knock out erstwhile undefeated Mexican Olympian Juan Pablo Romero in the 5th round in their 10-round scheduled super lightweight bout on the Canelo-Plant TV undercard fight at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Saturday night (Sunday in Manila).
Rodriguez stepped on the gas in round three throwing lethal uppercuts in the middle and then scored a knock down in the fourth round. Rodriguez finished Romero in round five with a wicked left cross that sent the Mexican down on his pants unable to beat the count of Referee Robert Hoyle.
Rodriguez improved his record to 12-1-1, 11KOs while Romero tasted the first defeat of his career to drop to 14-1-0, 9KOs.
Roach gives instruction to Rodriguez in the corner as assistant trainer Marvin Somodio looks on.
