The Philippines' Irish Magno (R) in action against Jutamas Jitpoing in Tokyo Thursday.

Irish Magno was outboxed and outpointed by wily Thai Jutamas Jitpong in their Women's Flyweight round of 16 matchup at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at Kokugigan Arena in Tokyo, Japan Thursday afternoon. Thus Magno fails to advance to the medal rounds, the first Filipino boxer who dropped out of the games so far.

Jitpong won on all the judges' scorecards, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 and 30-27. The judges were Antonio Stephen Aciga Fula of Uganda; Beau Campbell of USA, Slawomir Milczarek of Poland, Wilfredo Vazquez Calero of Cuba and Yermek Suiyenish, Kazakhstan.

Jitpong, who lost to Magno during the semifinals of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games, looked like she prepared well and hard against Magno this time around as she deftly neutralized the Filipina's attack with her own counterpunching and moving well all over the ring. Jitpong shut out Magno in the first two rounds and Magno's last ditch effort in the last round failed to impress the judges.
