Palawan Queens' Gambit throws support to P25,000 Women's Invitational elims

THE P25,000 winner take all Women's Invitational elimination tournament, which unfolds on February 7 (Sunday) at 11 a.m. on a virtual platform lichess.org gets a big boost as Palawan Queens' Gambit and MedPublika PCR Testing Machines announced its sponsorship of the prestigious competition featuring the country’s women's players.

Two-time (2019 and 2015) National Women's champion Woman International Master Jan Jodilyn Fronda will spearhead a strong cast.

The event, hosted by Euro Gaming Consultant/Sportsman Kim Zafra, board of director of the organizing Bayanihan Chess Club, in cooperation with the United Queens Chess Club and Cabuyao City Chess Club.

"Good luck to the players. May the best woman wins," said Mr. Kim Zafra.

Other WIMs vying in the event are Woman International Master Bernadette Galas (2017 National Women's champion), Woman International Master Catherine Perena-Secopito (2014, 2012 and 2008 National Women's champion) and Woman International Master Kylen Joy Mordido.

Lone Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna is not confirmed yet while Woman Fide Master Sheerie Joy Lomibao-Beltran is still checking her availability.

Other notable masters participating are WFM Cherry Ann Mejia, WFM Allaney Jia Doroy, WNM Jerlyn Mae San Diego, WNM Francois Marie Magpily, WCM Christy Lamiel Bernales, AGM Rowelyn Joy Acedo, AIM Alexandra Sydney Paez and WFM elect Antonella Berthe Racasa.

A time control of three (3) minutes plus two (2) seconds increment will apply in the elimination round via Swiss System format.

The top notcher in the elimination round will have a chance to play in the P25,000 winner take all tournament schedule on February 14, coincide the celebration of Valentines day.-Marlon Bernardino-
