
Kyle Ochoa wins ECC Finals online chess tourney

Kyle Ochoa of Malolos City, Bulacan ruled the Espana Chess Club Manila in a tournament held online on Saturday, January 16, 2020 at lichess platform.
According to Espana Chess Club Manila president Engineer Ernie Fetisan Faeldonia, Ochoa bagged the championship crown of the Finals participated by 30 Qualifiers from 3 different Qualifying events of the said bullet competition.
Ochoa gathered 8 wins and 2 losses, the same points with 1997 Philippine Junior Champion National Master Elwin Retanal but the former (Ochoa) got a higher tiebreak at the end of the 10 round Swiss System.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based NM Retanal who hails from Cebu placed second while 2019 Singapore National Age Group Chess Championships Co-Champion Jasper Faeldonia of Odiongan, Romblon placed third.
Rounding up to the top 10 were Ralph Floro (fourth), Ted Ian Montoyo (fifth), Rowell Roque (sixth), Andres Bautista (seventh), Francis Glen Panes (eight), National Master Julius Sinangote (ninth) and Arena Grandmaster Irwin Aton (tenth).-Marlon Bernardino-
