Abelgas strikes again in Bayanihan online chess tourney

International Master elect and Fide Master Roel Abelgas, a consistent winner of the Bayanihan Chess Club online chess tournaments, stamped his class again by topping the Arena Grandmaster Glenn Lemen chess cup 2021 over the weekend, January 3, 2021.
Abelgas, a top player of the star-studded Dasmarinas Chess Academy of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr., tallied 144 Arena points to rule the online tilt sponsored by Arena Grandmaster Glenn Lemen.
Lemen is a certified Arena Grandmaster and former top player of De La Salle University Taft-Manila Chess Team, who is also a well known international pianist. Lemen is best to remembered when he invited to perform in Carnegie Hall, New York, USA.
Nelson Busa took the second spot with 117 points that drew 131 players with a time control of one minute play to finish.
1997 Philippine Junior Champion National Master Elwin Retanal and Ariel Joseph Abellana, both registered 109 points but the former took the third place honors by virtue of a higher tie-break output.
Sherwin Tiu completed the top five with 102 points.-Marlon Bernardino-
