Bacojo rules Roca Chess tourney

Youthful Mark Jay Daños Bacojo of Dasmarinas City emerged champion in the International Master Petronio Roca Merry Christmas Blitz Masters Chess Tournament held last December 25, 2020 in Dasmarinas City, Cavite.

Bacojo collected 10.5 points on 10 wins, one draw and one loss to win the single-round 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment over the board chess tournament hosted by Mrs. Elvira Roca of Skin Magical in close cooperation with Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr. and claim the top purse worth P5,000 in memory of the late former Social Security System Senior Vice-President Miguel Roca Jr., brother of IM Petronio.

International Master Chito Garma of Manila came in second place with 10 points followed by third placer Fide Master Roel Abelgas of Dasmarinas City with 8 points and fourth placer Candidate Master Genghis Imperial of Manila with 7.5 points. Garma, Abelgas and Imperial got P3,000, P2,000 and P1,000, respectively.

Other notable woodpushers who saw action and received P500 each were International Master Angelo Young (5th), Chester Caminong (6th), Arena Grandmaster Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr. (7th), IM Roca (8th), Justine Diego Mordido (9th), Woman International Master and Woman Grandmaster candidate Kylene Joy Mordido (10th), John Lance Valencia (11th), Noel Jay "Super B" Estacio (12th) and 8-years-old John Kurt Valencia (13th).
Fide National Arbiter Byron Gabrentina Villar is the chief arbiter assisted by Club Arbiter Daniel Valencia.-Marlon Bernardino-
