
Kyle Emmanuel Ochoa cops Gov. Daniel Fernando chess crown

MANILA, Philippines— Kyle Emmanuel Ochoa ruled the Governor Daniel R. Fernando Online Swiss Chess Tournament (Individual event) Saturday afternoon, November 28, 2020 at lichess.org.
Handling the black pieces, the seventh seed Ochoa defeated top seed International Master Angelo Young in marathon 58 moves of a King's Indian defense to notch 6.5 points out of the possible seven and bag the title.
"Masaya ako sa pagkapanalo kong ito," said Ochoa, the pride of Malolos City, who escaped in a losing position against Young from Marilao in their rook and pawn end game.
Third seed Karl Victor Ochoa, elder brother of Kyle Emmanuel, meantime, split the point with National Master Michael Gotel after 29 moves of French defense to score 6 points and take home the runner-up place.
Ninth seed Joshua Heshed Crismo, who crushed 20th seed Vince Duane Pascual, and 23rd seed Jhune Angelo Dultra, who halved the point with sixth seed Victor "Bong" Anas, tallied 5.5 points alongside Gotel to share third, fourth and fifth places. Gotel was awarded the third place because of higher tie-break points.
Sharing sixth to 12th places in the tournament organized by the Bulacan Sports Division headed by OIC, Sports Division Tournament director Mr. Benjamin B. Santos Jr. and Deputy Tournament director Mr. Normel Benigno R. De Jesus and sponsored jointly by Gov. Daniel R. Fernando, Vice Gov.Wilhelmino "Willy" Manucdoc Sy-Alvarado and Provincial Youth, Sports and Public Employment Service Office Department Head Atty. Kenneth Z. Ocampo-Lantin were IM Young, Andrew Dalina, Leo Aldrin Caraig, Art Gian Juan, Roxanne Atayde, Emmanuel Dave Santos and Anas who totes 5 points each.
Chief Arbiter is FNA Byron G.Villar assisted by Deputy Chief Arbiter FNA Almario Marlon Q. Bernardino Jr. in the weekend tournament applying the 15 minutes + 2 seconds increment time control format.-Marlon Bernardino-
