Manila, Philippines---Philippine chess wizard Ivan Travis Cu of San Juan City won the 100th Brainy Chess Academy (BCA) Kiddies Chess title Under-13 Online Chess Tournament after beating John Dave Lavandero of Mabolo, Cebu City during the final round in lichess.org on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Cu finished with 6 wins and 1 loss for a total of 6 points, the same output of Angelica Joy Dimalanta of Guagua, Pampanga.
The 11-year-old Cu, a grade six pupil of Xavier School under the guidance of coach Rolly Yutuc, however, was proclaimed champion due to better tie break points in this 1-day event, hosted by National Instructor Glenn Hullana Garcia, applying seven minutes plus two seconds increment time control format.

"Pinilit kong manalo sa last game kasi alam ko na magiging magandang placing ko,” said Cu who suffered his only loss to Adelyn Suhaib of Malaysia in the sixth and penultimate round.
“Kasi alam ko in case mag-tie, sa akin mapupunta ang title kasi alam kong mas mataas ang tie break points ko."

It shall be recalled that Cu also topped the 92nd Brainy Chess Academy-BCA Kiddies Under 13 category last November 12, 2020.
At 3rd to 7th place with 5 points were John Dave Lavandero of Mabolo, Cebu City, Gabriel Ryan Paradero of Manila, Maria Kristine Lavandero of Mabolo, Cebu City, Adelyn Suhaib of Malaysia and Ericka Ordizo of Alaminos City, Pangasinan.-Marlon Bernardino-
