Sherwin Tiu won the 2nd Marinduque Online Chess Tournament last October 30, 2020 at lichess.org.

The Manila based Tiu put on a strong start and a stronger finish to take home the top prize P3,000.

“I didn’t look to defend my title, just to play my best,” said Tiu, who honed his chess skills at the famous Guadalupe Chess Club in Guadalupe Mall, Makati City.

Actually, Tiu together with second place Ellan Asuela of Bacolod City and third place Vince Angelo Medina of Quezon City, tallied 9.5 points each. However, Tiu took the title by virtue of higher tie break points.

Macario Pelaez of Medina, Misamis Oriental, the 2nd Marinduque Online Chess Tournament was organized by Marinduque Chess Association in close cooperation with Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA president Dr. Alfredo “Fred” Paez.

According to Dr. Paez, the event was aimed to develop good thinkers through the understanding of chess strategies and tactics, improving the logical abilities and rational thinking and reasoning of the participants, and instilling a sense of self-confidence, self-worth and camaraderie.
