MANILA, Philippines — Oshrie Jhames "OJ" Constantino Reyes says he is ready for war when he goes up against Candidate Master (CM) Al Basher "Basty" Buto in the Mobile Chess Club Philippines Match Up Series on October 9, 2020 (Friday), 7 pm at Lichess.org.
A race-to-9, 3 minutes plus 2 seconds increment, the Match Up Series is set to give Philippine chess another milestone. The event will be aired on Mobile Chess Club Philippines Facebook page under the guidance of Mr. Mark Angelo Godino.
According to Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes, father/coach of OJ Reyes, at stake is a guaranteed prize fund of P14,000 in a 60-40 split between two players.
“I trained hard for this fight so I can give a good show for chess fans,” said nine-year-old Pinoy chess prodigy Reyes who lost to Buto, 4-7, last September 5, in a race-to-7, 5 minutes plus 2 seconds increment time control format.
“It’s also excellent training for me for the coming Professional Chess Association of the Philippines - PCAP qualification tournament on October 18 as a guest player sponsored by Mr. Jake Carlos as well the International Kiddies Under-12 Chess Tournament in the first week of November hosted by Fide Master Robert Suelo,” added the Dila-Dila, Santa Rita, Pampanga native Reyes, who is fresh from winning the Frontier Wheels Kiddies Under 12 International Chess Tournament last September 26.
It shall be recalled that Reyes, a grade 4 pupil of EZEE School in Guagua, Pampanga topped the 13th Brainy Chess Academy (BCA) Junior Under 18 Chess Arena nationwide online chess tournament last July 6, 2020, the 15th BCA Age group rapid arena championships last June 13 and the 9th BCA Juniors Open Blitz Arena Championships last June 24.-Marlon Bernardino-
