Pinoy chess prodigy OJ Reyes wins Frontier Wheel Chess U-12 online international chess tournament

Manila---Nine-Year-old Pinoy chess prodigy Oshrie Jhames “OJ” Constantino Reyes bested a strong field of contenders to rule the Frontier Wheel Chess Under 12 Arena online international chess tournament via lichess.org Saturday (September 26, 2020).

Reyes, a grade 4 pupil of EZEE School in Guagua, Pampanga was actually tied with 11-year-old Ryien Bahita, a grade six pupil of Brgy. Aquino Elementary School in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental who also finished with 60 points but the Dila-Dila, Santa Rita, Pampanga native Reyes clinched the coveted title by virtue of higher tie break points.

Reyes received the top prize 30 Singapore dollar (around P1,000) from tournament organizer and Singapore chess teacher Arena Grandmaster Robert Suelo Jr.

"Congrats Kuya Oshrie Jhames Constantino Reyes for dominating Frontier Wheel Chess Under 12 Arena online international chess tournament. This is your latest achievement from strong field. Keep it up. More efforts, more practice and more new lessons to learn," said Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes, father/coach of OJ.

Bahita, meantime pocketed 20 Singapore dollar (around P700) for his effort.

In third place is Alex Tan of Singapore who had 28 points to went home 10 Singapore dollar (around P350).

Meanwhile, tournament organizer and Singapore chess teacher Arena Grandmaster Robert Suelo Jr. announced the staging of F1 Chess Challenge Lichess Online Invitational Tournament on October 3, 2020 (Saturday).-Marlon Bernardino-
