Nicaraguan WBA Super Featherweight World Champion René Alvarado (32-8, 21 KO’s) has already started training in Las Vegas ahead of his 1st title defense promoted by Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions.
The 31-year-old Alvarado — whose twin brother Félix is also a world champion boxer — runs daily early morning around Sin City, then trains at Las Vegas Fight Club Gym.
Born in Nicaragua’s Capital, Managua, the hard-swinging warrior claimed the WBA 130-pound “regular” world title stopping Andrew Cancio (21-5-2, 16 KO’s) in seven chapters last November in Indio, California; and the Pinolero knockout artist wants to scalp some more.
He’ll have his chance as Golden Boy works on a tough 130-pound world-ranked challenger yet TBA. We’ll find out who.
The division’s WBA Super Featherweight “Super Champion” is Tough Mexican Leo ”Terremoto” Santa Cruz (37-1-1, 19 KO’s), who can’t wait to climb the square ring to battle Baltimore’s unbeaten WBA 135-lbs kingpin Gervonta “Tank” Davis (27-0, 22 KO’s) on October 24 for a thrilling 2-division super feather & lightweight world title at the Mohegan Sun in Connecticut, fans wondering who will emerge victorious.
