MANILA, Philippines – Sherwin Tiu stunned an elite field to capture the 1st Gerona Chess Club Online Championship over the weekend at lichess.org.
Tiu downed International Master Chito Garma to rule the one-day event with 14 points, organized by Gerona Chess Club in Gerona, Tarlac headed by it's president Paolo Cortez, Christopher Sumadsad and Felicisimo Cables and Mobile Chess Club Libangan Team led by Mark Angelo Godino.
Tied from 2nd to 4th with 13 points were John Ranel Morazo, Eric Labog Jr. and Kevin Arquero.
Rounding up to the top 10 were Rowel Roque (5th), Karl Victor Ochoa (6th), John Magpily (7th), Eli Budoso (8th), International Master Barlo Nadera (9th) and Leo Aldrin Caraig.
Meanwhile, the Jun Benito "Kuya Benjie" Go Memorial Online Chess Championship gets underway on September 19.-Marlon Bernardino-
