Edmonton chess team beats Tamaraws

Edmontonians finally got their sweet revenge against the mighty varsity players of FEU ‘94. Team Captain Alvin ‘babinsmith" Guevarra this time fielded a more solid line up bannered by the former Edmonton kiddie champion Mark Ivanescu, Fide Master Belsar Valencia, 2020 Edmonton champion Butch Villavieja and Venezuelan decent Rafael Arruebarena.
The Canadians toppled the ex Morayta based chessers with a score of 37-23 last August 30, 2020 and 40-26 last September 5, 2020. FEU was being led by Ritchie Evangelista, US based Rainier Labay, Leo Penaredondo and Christopher Megino. It was a nerve wracking game at the very start, until the wood pushers from Canada pulled away. Other members of Edmonton chess team were Dante Briones, Joseph Young and Mark Tuvera. -Marlon Bernardino-
