Sherwin Tiu wins 1st Marinduque Online Chess Tournament

Manila---Veteran campaigner Sherwin Tiu won the 1st Marinduque Online Chess Tournament last August 28, 2020 at lichess.org.

Tiu, Sherwin-Tiu on Lichess, finished with 8.5 points in nine games and performance rating of 2655 to win the top prize of P3,000 in the one day event jointly organized by the Philippine Executive Chess Association-PECA led by Dr. Fred Paez and Marinduque Chess Association and sponsored by Board Member Engr. John Pelaez, Engr. Jimmy Paez, Engr. Noel Paez and Mr. Sonnie Paez.

Fide Master David Elorta took the second spot with 8 points for runner-up prize of P2,000.

In third place was Grandmaster Dusan Popovic of Serbia who had 7.5 points to settle for P1,000.

Also with 7.5 points were 4th placer National Master Julius Sinangote and 5th placer Fide Master Alekhine Nouri who pocketed P700 and P500 each, respectively.

Rounding up to the 10 finishers who totes 7 points each were Fide Master Sander Severino (6th place), Grandmaster Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. (7th), Grandmaster Mark Paragua (8th), Noel Jay Estacio (9th) and Anthony Mosqueda (10th).

Adjudged ctaegory winners were Top Executive - Arnel Nino Aton, Top Senior - June Haig, Top Junior - FM Alekhine Nouri, Top Kiddie - Al-Basher Buto, Top Lady - Queenie Mae Samarita, Top Marinduqueňo - Engr. John Albert Lacdao and Top Marinduqueňa - Vanessa Joy Regalado-Marlon Bernardino-
