Young wins TIMY online chess title

MANILA--- 8-time Illinois, USA chess champion International (IM) Master Angelo Abundo Young capped another memorable campaign with a final-round win against many-time Philippine Executive champion Dr. Jenny Mayor to capture the title in the Till I Met You (TIMY) online blitz chess tournament Friday night, July 31, 2020 at the lichess.org.

The victory pushed Young's tally to 24 points good for the champion’s crown in the one day event backed up by Chicago based US master Florentino Inumerable, Australia based AGM Anji Camer, Mr. Rajakatur of Malaysia and Falco family of New York, USA.

"This to encourage players that chess is for everyone regardless of age and gender, especially to our youth practice and study better," said the 56 years old Young, over all eight place in the 2019 World Seniors Chess Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

Arena Grandmaster (AGM) and National Master (NM) Almario Marlon Quiroz Bernardino Jr. halved the point with Arena Grandmaster Angelito Camer to settle for runner-up honor with 22 points.
National Master (NM) Gerardo "Gerry" Cabellon, on the other hand edged Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Dr. Fred Paez to landed at 3rd place with 19 points.

Rounding up to the top 10 finishers were Noel Jay "Super B" Estacio (4th), Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Glenn Lemen (5th), Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Dr. Fred Paez (6th), Dr. Jenny Mayor (7th), Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Angelito Camer (8th), Luzelle Dacayo (9th) and National Master (NM) Homer Cunanan (10th).-Marlon Bernardino-
