Lapurga wins, AGM Bernardino finishes 2nd

Manila---Joey Lapurga, one of the top players of Novelty Chess Club headed by sportsman Sonsea Agonoy came out triumphant in the National Master Homer Cunanan's Practice on fire online chess tournament, which was held on Tuesday, July 14, 2020 at the lichess.org.

After winning his first round match, Lapurga, who hails from Moncada, Tarlac, suffered back to back loses. However, he came back winning his last eight matches to secure the coveted title.
Thus, Lapurga collected nine points on nine wins and two loses to win the 11 round Swiss system tournament.

Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Marlon Bernardino, a sportswriter, meantime bested Katie Ozidro in the last round to finish solo second with eight points on seven wins, two draws and two loses.
In third place is Zachtrevor with 7.5 points followed by fourth placer Felix Aguilera who totes 7 points and fifth placer Lexie Hernandez, who had a better tie break in group of 6.5 pointers.
Meanwhile, Dennis Norbe (10 points), Gabriel Paril (9.5 points) and engineer Joel Hicap (8.5 points) already advance to the grand finals set on September after landed top three (3) finishers in the just ended second leg of Aircraft Tech Qualifying Tournament last Sunday, July 12, 2020, organized by Toronto, Canada based Jelvis Calvelo.-Marlon Bernardino-
