
GM Joey Antonio rules Julio Trunio Jr. Chess Cup

Manila---Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. defeated Stephen Manzanero then halved the point with Eduard Sumergido in the 15th and final round to rule the 4th Baby Uno Online Chess Tournament dubbed as Seaman Chief Engineer Julio Trunio Jr. Chess Cup on online application lichess.org Thursday night, July 2, 2020.
The 58-year-old Antonio, a 13-time national champion, finished undefeated with 11 wins and four draws to raise his total to 13 points and topped the one-day event that drew a total of 135 participants, backed up by Seaman Chief Engineer Julio Trunio Jr., PECA president Dr. Fred Paez, Jubail Kingdom of Saudi Arabia based Jimmy Reyes, Auckland, New Zealand based Jun Isaac, Ron Demain, Mc Daniel Ebao, engr. Ernie Faeldonia, former NCFP director Ed Madrid, sportsman Kim Zafra, Chief PSSUPT. Jaime Osit Santos, Oriental Press Bahrain Internal Audit Manager Kriz "Dodoy" Villareal, Dr. Jenny Mayor, engr. Mark Anthony Mallari Yabut and Pretty Zada Skincare Products.
The former University of Manila (UM) standout Antonio, who hails from Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro also won the M.A. Yabut Realty and Construction Birthday Chess Online Tournament last June 27 then settled for a runner-up finish behind eventual champion Grandmaster (GM) Mark Paragua in the BOGM-Battle of the Grandmaster final last June 28.
Jerome Villanueva ended up tied for second to third with Manzanero with eleven points apiece but the former took No. 2.
Claiming the fourth to seventh places, respectively was UMAK coach Clark dela Torre, National Master (NM) Gerardo "Gerry" Cabellon, Jess Calabia and Sumergido finished with 10.5 points apiece.
Completing the top ten with 10 points each were Ian Ted Montoyo (8th),National Master (NM) Jasper Rom (9th) and Robert Cacho (10th).
Also receiving special awards in the recent free registration tournament organized by Bayanihan Chess Club in close cooperation with Mr. Arjie Bayangat and supported by Philippine E-9 Chess Club in South Korea led by Jun Jun Jabay, Norwin Altez Marasigan, Ruel Gomez, Joel "Recca" Carcueva, Don Ken Calendario, Lando Balao Jr. and Wilson Valenton were International Master (IM) Baro Nadera (Top Pampanga),Manzanero (Top PECA executive), Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Marlon Bernardino (Top Media), Gladys Hazell Romero (Top Lady) and Yosef Immanuel Tanguilan Morada (Top Kiddy 11 years old and below).-Marlon Bernardino-
