Antonio faces tough online chess competition

Grandmaster Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and Grandmaster elect Ronald Dableo expect rough sailing in the Pretty Zada Skincare Products Online Blitz chess tournament where they will be meeting a tough line of competitors on May 19, Tuesday at 2:30 pm at the Lichess Arena.

The Free registration, No Bersek, five minutes plus three minutes time control online chess tournament jointly organized by Arena Grandmaster Almario Marlon Bernardino Jr., Mr. Genghis Imperial and Mr. Danilo Ebao of Bayanihan chess club, offers P1,000 to the champion, while P500 each for 2nd to 3rd placers and P250 each for the top lady and top kiddy 11 yrs old and below award.

“It will be a very tough match against my fellow Pinoy woodpushers,” said Antonio, the 13-time Philippine Open champion.

“We are expecting tough matches but we will try our very best,” said Laylo, one of the top player of multi-titled Philippine Army chess team.

Others pawnpushers joining the competition are Arena Grandmaster Robert Suelo Jr. and Henry Roger Lopez, International Masters Barlo Nadera, Joel Pimentel and Dale Bernardo, Fide Master Sander Severino, National Masters Noel dela Cruz and Roland Joseph Perez, Sherwin Tiu, Kevin Arequero, Abel Dimalanta, Rowell Roque, Richard dela Cruz, Juancho Caunte, Erwin Calar, Levis Miranda, Johnnel Balquin, Kim Zafra, Ariel Santander, Deorico De Paz Jr. , coach Ederwin Estavillo , Dr. Alfredo Paez, Dr. Jenny Mayor, Joey Lapurga, Noel Jay “Super B” Estacio as well PH chess prodigies Oshrie Jhames Reyes, Ivan Travis Cu and Bonjoure Fille Suyamin.- Marlon Bernardino-
