IM Daniel Quizon rules third leg of the Rising Phoenix International Chess Championship 2020

MANILA---Philippine chess genius International Master (IM) Daniel Maravilla Quizon (total 48 points) is once again at the top of his game after winning the the third leg of the online Rising Phoenix International Chess Championship 2020 at the famous chess website: "www.lichess.org" Monday, March 30, 2020.

The 15-year-old Quizon, the top player of Dasmariñas Chess Academy under the leadership of Rep. Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga and national coach International Master (IM) Roel Abelgas, showed his form by outclassing Pinoy Thailand based Fide Master(FM) Deniel Causo in the last round to win the coveted title in the blitz event hosted by Rising Phoenix Chess Academy Owner/Managing Director International Master (IM) Joel "Cholo" Banawa.

With the win, the Philippine Sportswriters Association-PSA Annual Awards Night awardee Quizon followed the foot step of 1st leg winner Philippine Airforce chess team bet International Master (IM) Richelieu Salcedo III and 2nd leg winner Letran Squires Chess Team mainstay Christian Mark Daluz.

It was his first title in the online chess tournament since his second straight runner-up finish over the weekend in the 1st Philippine National Bullet Championship backed up by National Chess Federation of the Philippines chairman/president Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. which dominated by reigning National Open champion US based Grandmaster Rogelio "Banjo" Barcenilla Jr. (1st leg winner) and youthful Jerome Angelo Aragones (2nd leg winner) respectively, organized by NCFP executive director Atty. Cliburn Anthony Orbe.

Fide Master (FM) Sander Severino halving the point with Grandmaster (GM) Darwin Laylo to tie with another youthful sensation Mark Jay Bacojo after tallying 44 points apiece.
Fide Master (FM) Arden Reyes meanwhile, had a ceasefire with Arena Grandmaster (AGM) Henry Roger Lopez to end up solo fourth with 41 points.

The online chess tournament was held to continue the chess programs for athletes in the wake of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

13-time Philippine Open champion Grandmaster (GM) Rogelio "Joey" Antonio Jr. won the first Cesar Orbe Memorial Chess 960 series (Fischer Random chess) online crown at www.chess.com recently.
In other related online chess tournament, Brotherhood of The Knights of Square Table Founder/CEO Capt Ronaldo Banaag said the registration is now on full swing for the 1st Women's Online Bullet Chess Championships @ lichess.org, which unfolds on April 1, 2020, at 1pm, organized by United Queens Chess Club headed by its president Susan Grace Neri.

Among the early entries are Woman Grandmaster (WGM) Janelle Mae Frayna, Woman International Master (WIM) Bernadette Galas, Woman International Master (WIM) Marie Antoinette San Diego, Woman Fide Master (WFM) Allaney Jia Doroy, Woman Fide Master (WFM) Cherry Ann Mejia, Woman National Master (WNM) Francois Marie Magpily, Rowelyn Joy Acedo and Michaela Concio.-Marlon Bernardino-
