Senator Manny Pacquiao is leaving no stone unturned in his preparation for the upcoming Philippine presidential race in 2022 as he embarks on another life-changing challenge to pursue graduate studies in public administration at the Harvard University.
Pacquiao has recently graduated with a degree in political science at the University of Makati. It took him many years to finish his college education due to his work as a professional boxer and politician.
Pacquiao’s fans and supporters believe the incumbent Philippine senator is trying to address public criticism about his lack of credentials in his pursuit of the highest post in government.
Certainly, a college diploma and a graduate degree from the world’s top university would be enough to silence his political bashers.
Pacquiao has yet to formalize his plan to take a respite from his hectic schedules at the senate where he was elected as neophyte senator in the 2016 national elections. His term will end in 2022.
Senator Coco Pimentel, who is likewise completing his six-year term in 2022 is expected to join Pacquiao at Harvard. Pimentel is a lawyer and a former senate president but he is also desirous of pursuing a graduate study in Public administration.
"Pinag usapan namin. Gusto namin mag-aral ng masters sa abroad...Oo, sabay, kaya inaayos namin [ang] sked," Pimentel said in a radio interview.
"Sabi niya sa akin masarap daw mag-aral. Sabi ko nami-miss ko na rin mag-aral, kaya sasamahan ko," Pimentel said. Read more https://www.gmanetwork.com/news/news/nation/723553/pimentel-reveals-plan-of-taking-master-s-abroad-with-pacquiao/story/
Pacquiao’s plan to pursue higher education abroad while attending to his mandated duties as an elected official would entail drastic changes in his usual fight schedules.
Both his senate and promotions staff need to work closely to synchronize the schedule for his next fight which is expected to happen in the second and last quarters of the year on the assumption that he would be fighting twice this year.
Among others, Pacquiao’s staff need to sort out things with the senate, the school and the fight promoters with the end in view of securing enough time for Pacquiao’s schooling.
Unless Pacquiao gets an official leave from the senate to allow him to spend time in the campus, he won’t be able to train for his upcoming fight due to time constraints.
Pacquiao needs to generate extra funds for the upcoming presidential race and his share of the revenue from his next two or three fights would probably be enough support his election campaign.
Pacquiao is set to start training next month for his next fight which would probably happen in before July this year.
After his controversial loss to Jeff Horn of Australia, Pacquiao is now on his three-fight winning streak starting off with a TKO win over Lucas Matthysse in July 2018 followed by his UD win over Adrien Broner in January last year. Last July, Pacquiao gave Keith Thurman his first loss in his career record with a split decision win.
Pacquiao is looking forward to a rematch against unbeaten American boxing star Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Their first fight which took place at the MGM Grand in Paradise, Nevada, five years ago drew 4.6 million buys valued at over $400 million to become the richest fight in boxing history.
