NBA -- Kings climb back to contention after slow start

INDIANA -- After a horrid start to the season in which they lost five games in a row, the Sacramento Kings are back on track, winning seven of their last 10 and landing in ninth place in the tough Western Conference.

The Kings continued with their slow and steady rise on Sunday by beating the Washington Wizards on the road, 113-106, at the Capital One Arena.

Former Golden State Warrior Harrison Barnes exploded for 26 points to topscore for the Kings. Buddy Hield turned in 18 and five assists while Bogdan Bogdanovic scored 21 off the bench.

Sacramento shot 39 of 81 field goals and 11 of 31 from 3-point distance.

"We just want to come out and guard and be there for each other," Kings power forward Richaun Holmes told the Associated Press after scoring 16 points and collecting 10 rebounds. The Kings are soldiering through a stretch without injured teammates, big man Marvin Bagley III and speedy guard De'Aaron Fox.

Bradley Beal led the Wiards with 20 and Isaiah Thomas had 17. Thomas Brytant finished with 14 and eight rebounds.

The Wizards fell to 5-9.
