Racasa defeats Ivanova in 8th round

The Philippines? youngest Woman Fide Master (WFM) Antonella Berthe ?Tonelle? Murillo Racasa continued her winning ways in the Under-12 Girls division of the World Cadet Chess Championships on Thursday as she defeated Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Dilyana Ivanova of Bulgaria at the Yujing Hotel in Weifang, Shandong, China in the eight round of the tournament.

The 45th seed Racasa, (elo 1380) the pride of Home School Global beat 14th seed Ivanova (elo 1673) in 71 moves of the Sniper defence using the black pieces to raise her total 6.0 points, the same output of Woman Fide Master (WFM) Shri B Savitha of India, Mariya Manko of Ukraine, Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Alexandra Shvedova of Russia, Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Sophie Velea of the United States and Qianyi Huang of China.


"Another win for Antonella Berthe this time against Dilyana Ivanova of Bulgaria," said father/coach Roberto Racasa, also an International Memory champion, dubbed as the founder and father of Memory Sports in the Philippines.

"Antonella Berthe Murillo Racasa upset Dilyana Ivanova of Bulgaria in Round 8 of the Under-12 Division of the World Cadets in China. With 6/8, Racasa is tied from 4th to 9th. This girl (Antonella Berthe Racasa) has made chess fans happy and reinforced belief we have talent," added veteran journalist and chess guru Ignacio "Iggy" Dee.

The 12-year-old Racasa moved up to a tie for 4th-9th places, just one point behind a pair of new leaders Ruiyang Yan of the United States and Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Galina Mikheeva of Russia who totes 7.0 points apiece, with three rounds still to be played.

Yan bested overnight solo leader Woman Candidate Master (WCM) Alua Nurmanova of Kazakhstan while Mikheeva trounced Nguyen Ha Khanh Linh of Vietnam. Nurmanova remains at 6.5 points for solo third place while Nguyen was stuck at 5.5 points, the same score of Wang Xiyue of China.

Antonella Berthe's China trip is being sponsored by Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp. chair and CEO Andrea Domingo, D. Edgard Cabangon of ALC Group of companies, Mandaluyong City Mayor Menchie Abalos and Councilor Charisse Abalos.
She is also supported by Mr. Rogelio Lim of Boni Tower and Makati Medical Center President and Chief Executive Officer Rose Montenegro as she takes on Nguyen in Round 9.-Marlon Bernardino-
