
Elorde, Vea, Pichay, Gonzales grace GM Torre chessfest on Saturday

No less than Rotary International District 3810 Governor Liza Elorde will be the guest of honor when the Southeast Asian Games qualification tournament dubbed as 1st Eugene Torre Cup Chess Championship gets under way on Saturday at the Mapua University Gymnasium in Muralla Street, Intramuros, Manila.
Elorde, daughter-in-law of the late Filipino boxing great Gabriel ?Flash? Elorde, will deliver the inspirational remarks in the opening ceremony of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) sanctioned tournament.
Elorde is also expected to make the ceremonial move together with Torre, Mapua University President Dr. Rey Vea, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) Chairman/President Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero "Butch" Pichay Jr. and Far Eastern University head coach Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales.
National Association Mapua Alumni (NAMA) President engineer Romy Bagain and other officials are also invited to attend the opening ceremony in the two-day rapid and blitz chess event hosted by the Mapua Filipino-Chinese Alumni Association, headed by President Edmond Aguilar and former President Victor Lau in close cooperation with Mapua University head coach Boyet Tardecilla.
Among the early entries are 8-times Illinois, USA champion International Master Angelo Young, Fide Master Nelson "Elo" Mariano III, Woman Fide Master Antonella Berthe "Tonelle" Berthe Racasa, Mapua Junior player Kenzo Suarez, Mapua Alumni engineer Nelson Salazar and Genghis Katipunan Imperial.
