4Knights Chess Cafe Promotional Rapid Chess Tournament gets underway on May 19

A wide-open battle for the top honor is set when the 4Knights Chess Cafe Promotional Rapid Chess 1950 and below Non-Master Tournament gets underway on May 19 at the Padilla Nha Avenue Bagong Nayon 2, Barangay San Isidro in Antipolo City.

Mark Joseph "MJ" Barbosa, younger brother of US based Grandmaster Oliver Barbosa, looms as the player to beat in the five round Swiss system, 15 minutes time control format owing to his big wins in the past local tournaments.

Other woodpushers vying in the 4Knights Chess Cafe Promotional Rapid Chess 1950 and below Non-Master Tournament are Lito Celis, Denden Cruz, Gilbert Pama, Davey Alumisim, Irish Donasco, Paul De Leon, Prince Sanguan, Joseph Lawrence Rivera, Danny Dalisay, Lester Teves, Gil Morante, Jonathan Esquillo, Ronald Donasco and Kevin Gatlabayan.

Organized by 4Knights Chess Cafe in close cooperation with Alpha One Extreme Solution and Zabryne's Chess Cafe, offers a top purse of P3,000.

Second to fifth placers will receive P2,000, P1,000 and P500, respectively.

"We do this to promote chess in the grass-roots level and discover future chess masters," said Chief Operations Officer and Vice President Jessie Pendre of Alpha One Extreme Solution.

"We also believe that by encouraging the youth to actively participate in sports like chess will keep them away from drugs," added Chief Relation Officer Dr.Francis G. Lopez of Alpha One Extreme Solution.

According to Assistant Vice President Mc Daniel Ebao of Alpha One Extreme Solution, registration fee is P200 with free lunch and free snacks plus free raffle tickets for 10 t-shirts with different designs.

Mr. Sonny Dela Rosa and Mr. Jude Ulanday will supervise the said chessfest.
