Suelo rules Singapore Open Rapid Chess tourney

ARENA GRANDMASTER (AGM) and Fide Master (FM) elect Robert Suelo Jr. lived up to expectations as he ruled the March edition of Asean Chess Academy (ACA) 2019 Open Rapid Chess Tournament held last Sunday (March 17, 2019) at the Bukit Timah Shopping Centre in Singapore.

The 1996 Philippine Junior Champion Suelo finished with perfect six wins in six outings.

Suelo, an active member of International Churches of Christ (ICOC) in Singapore brought home the title plus the three nights stay at Mandalay Hotel in Myanmar.

Suelo currently works at chess teacher in Singapore. Born and raised in Quezon City, Suelo is best to remember who help the Rizal Technological University (RTU) Barangay Malamig, Mandaluyong woodpushers to steered the national championships title during the national inter-collegiate in the mid 90's.

Suelo scored victories over Fide Master (FM) Qing Aun Lee of Singapore in the first round, Woman International Master (WIM) WIM Jan Jodilyn Fronda of the Philippines in the second round, Deng Tiangle of China in the third round, Joshua Juaneza of the Philippines in the fourth round, Jonathan Auyeung of Singapore in the fifth round and Alex Chan of Singapore in the sixth and final round.

Hao Ren Chua and Jien Hao Ian Zachary Soon of Singapore, both tallied 5.5 points to share the top honors in the Challengers section.-Marlon Bernardino-
