PH's chess wizard Clark Jemuel Cabatian getting ready for NAGCC in Dasmariñas City, Cavite

5.0 points---Al-Basher Buto (advance to the Grand Finals)
4.5 points---James Gilbert Bragais (advance to the Grand Finals)
4.0 points---Clark Jemuel Cabatian, Julie Gelua, Prince Ethan Baay

AFTER fourth place finish in the first leg of the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg held at the Pacific Mall in Legazpi City, Albay last Sunday, Philippine chess wizard Clark Jemuel Cabatian is vying for the second leg of the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg to be held on March 28 to 30 in Dasmari?as City, Cavite.

One of the top players of General Trias City Chess Club under the guidance of PH chess coach Ederwin Estavillo, General Trias City mayor Antonio "Ony " Ferrer, incumbent 6th District congressman Luis "Jon-Jon" Ferrer IV, sports head Lhen Muralla Kempiz and Mariners Transport , the 8 years old Clark Jemuel will be pitted against some of the country's young woodpushers hosted by Dasmari?as City, Cavite mayor Elpidio "Pidi" Barzaga Jr.

"I hope my son Clark Jemuel (Cabatian) will perform well in the second leg of the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg to be held on March 28 to 30 in Dasmari?as City, Cavite," said Jennifer Nazarra-Cabatian, mother of Clark Jemuel.

Clark Jemuel, a Grade 3 student of John Isabel Learning Center is sharing the lead with eventual champion Mark Gabriel Usman and Al-Basher Buto going to the fifth and penultimate round of the 2019 National Age-Group Chess Championships (NAGCC)- Luzon Leg being held at the Pacific Mall in Legazpi City, Albay.

However, Clark Jemuel yielded to Usman that bowed in title race. Clark Jemuel halved the point with King Whisley Puso in the sixth and final round to settled tied for 4th to 6th placers in the company of fellow four pointers that includes 5th place Julie Gelua and 6th place Prince Ethan Baay whom he beat in the tie break points.

Usman, meantine beat Perez in the final canto to win the six-round tournament with 5.5 points in the event hosted by Legaspi City mayor Noel Rosal.

Buto, on the other hand split the point with James Gilbert Bragais to landed at solo second place with 5.0 points, half point ahead with 3rd placer Bragais with 4.5 points.
Usman, Buto and Bragais, the Top three (3) winners in the Boys Under-10 will advance to the Grand Finals. Top three (3) in the Grand finals will earn tickets for the 20th Asean Chess Age-Group Chess Championships to be held Malanday, Myanmar on June 9 to 19.

Tournament director is Grandmaster Jayson Gonzales and assisted by Asia's First Grandmaster Eugene Torre.
It shall be recalled that Clark Jemuel carried the good fight for Young PH woodpushers in the standard time control format. The Philippines won four gold medals and two silver medals at the Thailand Pattaya Youth Chess Championship 2018 held in Bay Beach Resort Pattaya, Banglamung, Chin Buried in Pattaya, Thailand last October 20 to 24, 2018.-Marlon Bernardino-
