Moralde on Showtime. Filipino super featherweight "Mulawin" John Vincent Moralde (21-2, 11 KO's) in his fourth battle in the U.S.A., will headline on Showtime against unbeaten Mexican 130-pounder prospect Xavier Mart?nez (13-0, 9 KO's) on Friday, April 5 in Las Vegas, Nevada, announced today Moralde's promotion company.
"The Moralde vs Mart?nez fight will be the card's main event of Showtime's ShoBox: The New Generation TV series," says promoter JC Manangquil, director of Sanman Boxing.
Moralde, 24, lands in this extremely important rumble from a TKO win over unheralded journeyman Elmer Colve last December in Zamboanga Sibugay. Prior to that, Moralde lost a landslide 10-round decision to 33-year-old American Jamel Herring (19-2, 10 KO's) last September in Fresno, California.
In contrast, the 21-year-old Xavier Mart?nez -- handled by Mayweather Promotions -- has performed much better scoring stoppage wins in all his last five battles, his most recent an impressive demolition work of rugged Colombian veteran Deivi Julio Bassa last month in Carson, California.
Will the more experienced Moralde have in his arsenal the required weapons to deal with the young Mayweather fighter to shine live on nationwide TV, same as his stablemate Reymart Gaballo did last year in Hollywood, California?
Or will the promising Mexican Xavier Mart?nez make good use of his speed and proven destructive power to scalp good the tough-as-nails Filipino warrior born in the Garden City of Davao?
Fans will find out on April 5, and may the best man win.
