Frayna beats Doroy

Woman Grandmaster Janelle Mae Frayna (elo 2228) defeated compatriot Woman Fide Master Allaney Jia G. Doroy (elo 1972) to zoom into a share of 12th place after the seventh round of the 17th Asian Continental Chess Championship (2nd Manny Pacquiao Cup) at the Tiara Hotel in Makati City Sunday.

Frayna has now 4.0 points, the same output of Kaiyu Ning, Xueyi Li and WIM Tianlu Gu of China and her eight round opponent WFM Dita Karenza of Indonesia.

Doroy remains at 3.0 points whose stint here is being supported by National University Team Manager Samson Go.

IM Rout Padmini of India split the point with IM Qi Guo of China to remain on top with 6.0 points, one point ahead over IM Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Vietnam and WGM Gong Qianyun of Singapore.

GMs John Paul Gomez, Darwin Laylo, IMs Ricardo de Guzman, Paulo Bersamina, John Marvin Miciano, Jan Emmanuel Garcia and Chito Garma and FM Alekhine Nouri won their respective matches to lead the country?s campaign in the men?s section.

Alexis Emil Maribao, meantime beat overnight leader Vince Angelo Medina to create a four-way tie for first place with 6.0 points each that includes Medina, Prince Mark Aquino and Sherwin Tiu.-Marlon Bernardino-
