
Cliburn Anthony Orbe bags gold in Muntinlupa City Team Championships

ALPHALAND CORPORATION top chess player lawyer Cliburn Anthony Orbe ended his medal drought in the Team Competition after claiming the gold on board one in the Muntinlupa Inter-Barangay Chess Team Tournament 2018, 1950 and below average team rating last December 9, 2018 was held at the Dioko Pavillion Barangay Cupang in Muntinlupa City.
Orbe who made it to the Round-of-16 in the 2018 Alphaland National Executive Chess Championships Grand Finals, Rapid chess competition last December 2, won the gold medal with perfect 7 points, followed by silver medallist Jethro Dino Aquino of De la Salle Zobel Team A who notch 6.5 points and bronze medallist Michael dela Cruz of Sucat Team A who got 6 points.
However, Orbe's Barangay Cupang team A placed 14th overall with 8 match points while De la Salle Zobel Team A of Aquino's won the top high school award with 10 match points and placed 7th position.
Sucat Team A of dela Cruz placed 3rd overall with a superior tie break against fellow 10 match points 5th Bayanan Team A, Batang Poblacion, 6th Bayanan Team E and 7th De la Salle Zobel Team A.
Veteran campaigner Roberto Biron of Bayanan Team C got 4 points and lift his team into an overall championships with 12 match points. Other member of the team are Angelo Cuizon (5.5 points), Clint Pontino (6.5 points) and Mandy Benito (4 points). They receive P20,000 for their efforts in the event backed up by Bureau of Immigration (BI) Deputy Commissioner Marc Red Mari?as and long-time chess supporter lawyer Vic Ulanday.
Roberto Calapan of Bayanan Team D, meantime got 3 points and spearheaded his team into a second placed overall finish with 11 match points.Tournament director is Edwin Feolino and assisted by arbiters are Respy Orellana and Miel Bautista in this event which is also supported Muntinlupa City vice-mayor Celso Dioko.-Marlon Bernardino-
