GM Dao-Ron rules 1st National Master Joshue Bolico Memorial "Tatluhan" chess team tourney

MANILA, Philippines ? TYRONE "Turon" Delos Santos proved unstoppable on Board 2 as he led the GM Dao-Ron chess team to the championship in the 1st National Master Joshue Bolico Memorial "Tatluhan" chess tournament last Saturday at the Tiendesitas Mall, Food Court in Pasig City.

Delos Santos defeated Mark Jay Bacojo to lead the GM Dao-Ron Team to a 2.5-0.5 win over the Top Secret in the sixth and penultimate round.

Backed up by Grandmaster Darwin Laylo and Makati Medical Center top player Ronald "Ron Matehek" Hermida, the GM Dao-Ron Team finished with six wins and one draw for 13 match points and 16.5 board points in seven outings to pocket the P50,000 top purse plus trophy in the event sponsored by Italy-based National Master Exfelicos Bolico and Erwin Tabor and being held to honor the late National Master Joshue Bolico with tournament director is Fide Master Nelson "Elo" Mariano III.

Apart from Delos Santos who tallied perfect seven points to win the individual board 2 gold medal award, the team was made up of Board 1 National Master Noel dela Cruz who got 5 points and Board 3 Paul Sanchez who chipped in 4.5 points.

GM Dao-Ron chess team split the point in the final round 1.5-1.5 to Redkings Byahero Warriors, but still emerged as the overall champion in the 65-team National Chess Federation of the Philippines sanctioned tournament.

?I always believe in the talent of my players (NM Noel Dela Cruz, Tyrone Delos Santos and Paul Sanchez) that's why our team with GM (Darwin ) Laylo always finish on the top of the standing. " said Makati Medical Center top player Ronald "Ron Matehek" Hermida who bankrolled this team along with Grandmaster Darwin Laylo.

Redkings Byahero Warriors skippered by International Master Jan Emmanuel Garcia, Sonny Dela Rosa and Rogelio Clemente posted 12 match points and 14 board points to receive the runner-up prize of P30,000 plus trophy.

Multi-titled Team Dumadag B of Laurence Wilfred ?Larry? Dumadag of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) is headed by Fide Master David Elorta, John Michael Silvederio and Dennis Bernas, tallied 11 match points and wound up in third place after beating Apartment 20-QC,Top Secret and Team Althea Samantha in tiebreak points.

The "J" Store Chess Team of Jason Rojo, composed of Fide Master Christopher Castellano, Jayson Levin Tapia and engineer Benjamin "Benjie" Esquejo finished in a tie with four others at 10 match points each, but enjoyed superior tiebreak points to secure the seventh-place honor.-Marlon Bernardino-
