DETROIT. After missing last season's playoffs by a mere four games, the Detroit Pistons are making some headway early this season. They are currently at 3-0 and third place in the Eastern Conference behind heavyweights Toronto Raptors and Milwaukee Bucks who are 5-0 and 4-0, respectively.

Blake Griffin is a huge factor in the surge.

The 6-foot-9 power forward etched a career-high 50 points, including a game winning three-point play with 1.3 seconds left in OT, in the Pistons' 133-132 victory over the Philadelphia Sixers on Monday night at the Little Caesar's Arena in downtown Detroit..

Griffin whose previous career-best was 47 points, made 20 of 35 field goals and 5-of-11 free throws. He also had 14 rebounds and six assists.

Joel Embiid went for 33 points and 11 rebounds while J.J. REdick added 30 for Philly.

It's a long season ahead. one that winds from October to April, and beyond if the playoffs is a destination. Many things can still happen to make or unmake a franchise but you can bet the Pistons would rather be 3-0 than 0-3.
