PH Team vies in 1st Pattaya Open Youth Chess Championship

The Philippines is set to compete in the 1st Pattaya Open Youth Chess Championship at the Bay Beach Resort Pattaya, Bang Lamung, Chonburi, Thailand.

The Philippine team will see action from October 20 to 24 in Pattaya. Members of the team are set to leave for Pattaya on Friday.

The team is led by Kaiza Libo- On (U8), Clark Jemuel Cabatian (U8), Bonjoure Fille Suyamin (U8), Jirah Floravie Cutiyog, (U10), Carlyhne Mae Maneja (U10), Adrian Klein Cantomayor (U10), Dan Japhet Libo- on (U12), Josh Edmar Castro, (U12 ), Earl Siegfrid Sta. Maria, (U12), Relghie Columna, (U12), Heart Florence Claros, (U12), Geraldine Mae Camarines U12, Jeanelle Cabatian (U14), Janmyl Dilan Tisado (U16),Jireh Dan Jaime Cutiyog (U16) and Paolo Estavillo (16).

The Filipinos will go against squads from Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Brunei.

?We expect these young and talented players to perform well as usual and bring honors to the country,? said coach Ederwin Estavillo, who is also the president of the General Trias City Chess Club.

?Most of these players did very well during the Philippine age-group chess championships held in the country as well the ASEAN age group chess championships in abroad, so it will not be a surprise that they will perform just as well in the ASEAN level,? added coach Estavillo, trainer of the Mapua University chess team under the leadership of national arbiter Boyet Tardecilla and Israel "Ice" Landicho.

The Head of Delegation is Ms.Baby Lyn Kempiz of City Mayor's Office of General Trias, Cavite.

"Youth team are all from General Trias, Cavite and members of General Trias City Chess Club." said Head of Delegation Ms.Baby Lyn Kempiz of City Mayor's Office of General Trias, Cavite.

Supported by local government of General Trias, Cavite led by Mayor Antonio "Ony" Ferrer and Congressman Luis "Jon-jon" Ferrer.

This delegation is endorsed by the National Chess Federation of the Philippines thru FA Red Dumuk, NCFP Executive Director and backed up by the Philippine Sports Commission.-Marlon Bernardino-
