GOMEZ: PACQUIAO-MARQUEZ NEGOTIATIONS MAKING HEADWAY

MANILA -- Golden Boy Vice-President and matchmaker Eric Gomez said that the ongoing negotiations between Top Rank and Golden Boy for the Pacquiao-Marquez rematch are looking good as both camps are working out the details of the highly anticipated fight. Gomez arrived this morning in Manila from Los Angeles to attend the ongoing 45th WBC Convention at the Manila Hotel.

Without going into the details of the negotiation, Gomez said that Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaeffer and Top Rank President Bob Arum, have made initial talks in New York for the proposed mega-fight. Schaeffer and Arum were both in New York last weekend during the exciting Cotto-Mosley card at the Madison Square Garden. Top Rank and Golden Boy share the promotional rights to Manny Pacquiao's fights after the two giant promotional companies had earlier agreed to a legal settlement.

Pacquiao and his team had earlier said that they would fight anybody -- including Marquez -- "if the price is right." Asked how much is the 'right price' for Pacquiao to fight Marquez in an interview last week, Pacquiao's confidant Rex "Wakee" Salud said that if Pacquiao is guaranteed $5 million dollars for the fight, he will take it.

The Pacquiao-Marquez fight has been widely clamored by boxing fans after the two protagonists' first meeting in 2004 which resulted in a controversial draw had left a lot of questions hanging in the air and after Marquez easily disposed Rocky Juarez last Nov. 3 together with Marquez's victory over Barrera earlier this year.

A fight between Marquez, who holds the WBC super featherweight crown, and Pacquiao, who holds the international version of the title, and who are both considered to be in the top five of boxing's pound for pound, would answer the question of who is the top super featherweight boxer in the planet at this time.
