
PRES. ARROYO FORMALLY OPENS 45TH WBC CONVENTION TOMORROW

Manila -- The 45th World Boxing Council (WBC) Convention officially opens on Monday, Nov. 12, with no less than the president of the Philippines, her excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, gracing the opening ceremony starting at 9 o'clock in the morning at the historic Manila Hotel.
The mayor of the host city of Manila, Alfredo Lim, Philippine Games and Amusement Board chairman Eric R. Buhain and Filipino boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will deliver welcoming speeches to the convention participants after which the president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, will formally declare the convention open.
The president had earlier declared the month of November as the WBC month.
After the formal opening, WBC President Jose Sulaiman will deliver his report to the delegates.
The WBC will then present its special award to President Arroyo.
Awards will also be given to other boxing personalities including GAB Chairman Eric Buhain and former WBC secretary general Rodrigo Salud who will be given a 'Lifetime Achievement Award'.
Other opening day highlights are the parade of flags of the nations of the nine WBC affiliated continental federations by each federation president, the entrance of colors led the 27th Lancers Drum & Bugle Corps of the city of Makati which will also sing a WBC-adopted rendition of the song 'We are the World', WBC Achievement Video presentation, a Folkloric show and a speech by WBC Emiritus champion Vitali Klitscho.
The opening session is expected to end by 1 pm, after which, the delegates will tackle the nitty-gritty and the technical side of the convention during the remainder of the day and the remaining days of the convention which will officially end on Nov. 17.
Two boxing events were lined up during the convention, OPBF lightfly champ Juanito Rubillar will headline a Nov. 12 card at the San Andres Sports Center against Korean Byung Joo Lee and the highly aticipated rematch between the Philippines' Jimrex Jaca and Ryu Miyagi of Japan will headline another card on Nov. 14 at the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
