CEBU, Philippines -- After 100 bouts, the amateur boxing competitions of the 2018 Philippine National Games (PNG) concluded with thrilling Finals on Friday (May 25) at the old Cebu Coliseum here in Cebu City.

"Fights were of a really good level between amateur boxers from all over the country," commented Mrs. Joselyn D. Flores, the tournament's ring announcer and one of the organizers of the event that grouped together the Filipino amateur boxing family.

The tough competitions, which began May 19 and concluded Friday May 25, included both Male and Female fighters in youth and elite level. During fights, youth boxers wore head gear, elite did not.

Two rings were set at the old Cebu Coliseum with simultaneous fights in every day of competition, except on Friday, in which only one ring was used for all the battles in each category from light flyweight 45-48 kilos to middleweights 75 kilos.

Amateur boxers from Baguio, Gensan, Victorias, Davao del Norte, CDO, Cebu and all over the Philippines had the time of their lives here in Cebu, not only competing in the most exciting amateur boxing tournament in the country, but also getting to know about Cebu's exciting historic attractions and rich heritage.

Some of the personalities in attendance during the Final day of competitions were Sir Rolando "Lando" Mendoza of the Games and Amusement Board (GAB), Mr. Lorenzo Chao Sy of the Philippines Sports Commission (PSC) and the 1996 Olympic Silver Medalist for the Philippines Mansueto "Onyok" Velasco.
