JOHN Vincent "Mulawin" Moralde will be in a make-or-break situation when he battles a dangerous opponent in the undercard of the Jerwin Ancajas-Jonas Sultan duel on May 26 at the Selland Arena in Fresno, California, USA.
Moralde will be fighting undefeated American boxer Ismail Muwendo in a fight that has great implications for the career of the Sanman Boxing Gym fighter.
"This is an important fight for Moralde. He needs to win this and he knows it," said Sanman Promotions CEO Jim Claude Manangquil.
Aware of the importance of the fight, Moralde has started training at the Sanman gym in General Santos City.
"He will leave for Los Angeles two weeks before the fight so that he will have enough time to adjust with the time zone and weather there," Manangquil said.
Moralde faltered in his last fight that saw him bowing to Toka Kahn Clary last Dec. 1, 2017.
Carrying a 19W-1L-0D, 10KOs record, Moralde expressed confidence that he can bounce back from his first career-loss and stay in contention for a world title shot.
"You will see a different fighter and I will do everything to win this one," said Moralde.
Moralde said making the catchweight in his last fight took a tool on him. Now that he had moved up to superfeatherweight, Moralde is confident of his chances against Muwendo.
"I was not comfortable in my last fight. For this fight, I will be 100 percent ready. I have been training hard for the past two weeks," said Moralde.
Moralde needs every bit of preparation especially against an opponent who is having an stellar career.
Muwendo has yet to lose in 19 fights and 12 of those victories came by way of knockouts.
